Manuela Jardim

Manuela Jardim, multimedia artist and native of Portugal. Manuela has a deep interest in the Portuguese African diaspora; textures and colors from Cape Verde and New Guinea embody her work by exemplifying the beauty of textiles from the diaspora. Manuela exhibited a large sculpture called Azul and textile drapes on the walls, which are inspired by the diaspora and made here in Lisbon, and now in Évora, Portugal. Two student volunteers from the School of Arts at the University of Évora helped to create these textiles, set up the exhibition, and lead the workshops for this exhibition, demonstrating the power of intercultural collaboration to build visual literacy. At the end of her artistic residency, Manuela Jardim led the first workshop where she taught her technique for making recycled paper. The second workshop was led by volunteers from Évora NAU, where stamps and stencils were created and used to paint the recycled paper, now dry, together with our Évora community.
